Tokyo’s design-manhole exhibition is scheduled for October 3–4, 2026, at Anime Tokyo Station’s first floor in Ikebukuro. Entry is free without advance registration, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; last admission is 6:45 p.m.

A short visit with a different perspective

On a busy pavement, you often have only a moment to appreciate a manhole design. An indoor display lets you linger over the parts you missed: the way a background curves around a character, how lettering balances a picture, or the small local reference tucked near the rim.

Tokyo’s event brings full-size replicas together as part of its Design Manhole Digital Rally. These are exhibition pieces, so the visit should not be confused with the unveiling of new working street covers.

Where to go

The venue is Anime Tokyo Station, first floor, Fujikyu Building East No. 5, 2-25-5 Minami-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku. The government’s access estimate is a four-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station.

Plan around the exhibition’s own admission window. A nearby venue’s general opening schedule is not enough for a temporary event, and arriving just before closing leaves little time to enjoy the details.

The talk is a separate event

A related October 4 talk takes place on the building’s fourteenth floor. Its lottery application period ended September 23. The walk-in exhibition does not establish admission to that session, so only plan to attend the talk if you have the organizer’s confirmation.

This distinction matters if you are meeting friends or bringing family. Agree on the exhibition floor as your destination and keep any separately booked activity clearly marked in the day’s plan.

Take one good idea back to the street

Try leaving with a question rather than a long list. Was there a symbol you did not recognize? A place name you have never visited? A design that made you want to see the neighborhood around it? Let that curiosity decide a future walk.

The accompanying official digital rally provides one way to continue exploring. Our rally guide explains its longer season, registration and prize-date distinction. The exhibition itself lasts only two days; after October 4, use the rally and permanent-cover information rather than traveling for this temporary display.

Before leaving, consult the government announcement or organizer for last-minute changes. This article is an October 3 preview and visitor note, not a report claiming attendance or completed-event observations.
